Besides the moral problem of a system which rewards people for gambling on abstractions while reducing the share of people who are doing productive work, there is a practical danger of inverting the priorities of civilization. Instead of reinvesting and replenishing the assets of the commons, the fruit of real labor is redirected into financial leverage against the laborers themselves. Those at the top become increasingly powerful and detached from the concerns of the rest of the society and those at the bottom become increasingly disposable.
